Job Description

Position Summary

Proactively directs and drives ship modernization and technical projects through a team of project managers so they are accomplished within the prescribed time frame, budget, and meet all safety and quality and brand guidelines. Liaises operating department representatives intimately involved in the modernization of a ship: Hotel, Culinary, Marine, Design, Finance, Procurement, HR, IT, ShoreEx, Revenue, Sales & Marketing, Safety & Environment and ship yards. Typical oversight would include major ship projects such as modernizations, revitalizations, and additionally, technical projects pertaining to engines, energy savings, AWP, AEP (scrubber technology).


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the flawless return to service of a portfolio of ship modernization projects.
  • Responsible for delivering the project on budget and on schedule.
  • Define and achieve execution related continuous improvement goals for cruise ship modernization program.
  • Responsible for leading and directing project managers to achieve re-delivery goals and project a corporate culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain key partnerships with shipyards and supplier.
  • Develop and maintain processes and reporting systems that support a continuous improvement program.
  • Confers with matrixed constituent department representatives and vendors to outline milestones, establish work plans, responsibilities, scope and tracking routines.
  • Manage team members to meet project deadlines and provide input on team member activities for schedule review process.
  • Manages vendors, to whom technical work is outsourced to, ensuring they meet our time, budget, safety and brand guidelines.
  • Directs activities to ensure project progresses on schedule, accurately reflects current project status through regular updates of tasks and statuses.
  • Stay current on relevant technical research and projects; seek information and evaluate new technology for use on board, and run test programs on such equipment together with manufacturing company and associated teams.
  • Direct and coordinate at a high level, all general procedures and regulatory classification and safety issues between new building office(s) and classification and regulatory societies.
  • Communicate project plan status on a regular basis to project stakeholders. Establishing goals and analyzing project work process.
  • Tracks timing, budget, cost control and reporting.
  • Utilizes project management tools and techniques to develop and maintain project scope; manages customer expectations and maintains focus.

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree or higher from an accredited university with a concentration in engineering or naval architecture.
  • Institute of Marine Engineers/Naval Architects or similar background.
  • 15+ years of experience supporting technical projects, shipbuilding or ship revitalizations.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Software: Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint required.
    Solid written and verbal communication skills, must communicate at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communicate in a multicultural environment with all levels of employees and management.
  • Detail oriented with excellent analytical, financial and spreadsheet modeling skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Demands
Work in shipyards during project executions with very basic accommodations. .

While performing job functions the employee is regularly required to sit, and stand, write, review and type reports, compile data, operate a pc, communicate, listen, and assess information. The employee may move about the office complex, may travel to other office locations and may lift, push, pull or move 10-15 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to walk to the dock, ascend and descend the vessel. This position may regularly travel domestically or internationally. Visual requirement include distant, close and color vision, and ability to adjust focus

Work Environment

The environment includes work inside/outside the office, travel to other offices, possibly travel domestic and international, and work in shipboard functions. A high noise level is possible if visiting shipboard or offsite locations.
