Job Description

We are currently seeking a Fleet Energy Optimization Manager, in efforts to reduce operating costs, minimize emission environmental footprint, and optimize operations. RCL has become a recognized industry leader in measures to reduce energy consumption.

The position shall spearhead & liaise both externally & internally with all the associated activities pertinent to vessel energy performance strategy. This position will be mainly responsible for leading operational excellence practices, implementing standardized operational metrics, KPIs and monitoring performance across all fleets. He/she shall lead the pursuits with respect to Total Energy Management (TEM) targets. The position shall be also responsible for other advanced data analytics projects pertinent to energy efficiency optimization and hull performance.


  • Prime mover in improving Fleet Energy Efficiency by providing shipboard and shoreside assistance with regards to Fuel Optimization and improving performance.
  • Lead the execution and update efforts for the software development of the Total Energy Management (TEM) system. Sustain fleet excess cost performance and ensure target of <5% excess cost is achieved yielding >$5M in fuel savings.
  • Manage data quality and integrity as it pertains to propulsion power decomposition and speed models used for vessel’s Hull Performance KPI. Assist in data driven decisions for hull maintenance and coating to achieve <7% Fleet target yielding >$10M in fuel savings.
  • Responsible for maintaining the TEM and energy dashboards database. Ensure vessel data connections are active, data flow is consistent and data quality is according to standards
  • Assist vessels in performance related issues by means of close dialogue, vessel visits in port and sailing onboard vessels when required
  • Provide feedback and support to office in Vessel Performance related matters with high focus being on Energy Efficiency Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Validate all operational excellence ship models pertinent to Speed, Trim, Route, Propulsion Power, Service Power and Hull Performance for accuracy
  • Supervise the interface development and back end algorithms pertinent to operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with Chief Engineers and Captains when leading energy optimization and fuel planning discussions. Analyze fleets performance and report finding to Global Marine Operations to drive change throughout the organization; engage performance review with ship managers and fleet directors
  • Coordinate internal meetings w.r.t vessel performance and issue appropriate advice to the relevant stakeholders, including the shipboard personnel. Providing training for shoreside and shipboard management on energy efficient ship operations.
  • Identify & assist with other energy efficiency improvements to further enhance the TEM tool.
  • Coordinate model upgrades when necessary and as per collected feedback from the vessels
  • Responsible for the coordinating multiple tools interface access and credentials management
  • Maintain close track of all open service tickets pertinent to the maintenance and development TEM tool
  • Responsible to set the standard operating procedures in accordance to the TEM tool
  • Manage a team of 2-4 direct reports composed of Lead, Sr. Analyst & Analyst roles. Provide guidance, ensure clarity around priorities and set specific goals for as it relates to fleet energy optimization.



  • Engineering and/or Naval Architect with advanced analytics & interpersonal skills a must. Excellent administrative and organizational skills. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong IT skills including advanced Excel, PowerPoint required. Previous experience with programming and big-data mining is a plus.
  • Need to possess basic long term financial modeling and project management skills.
  • Understanding of cruise line operations is preferred either in technical, nautical operations or new builds.

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Engineering / Business or other highly analytical field from an accredited college or university is required.  Post graduate degree a plus.
  • 5-10 years of experience within marine industry is preferred, but qualified applicants from Naval Architecture and Engineering Universities may be considered.


Physical Demands:
Works in office environment, but will be in shipboard environment when traveling to RCL vessels.

Travel up to 10-20% with some overseas and shipboard travel likely.
