Position Summary:

The Learning and Development Manager, located in our head office in Miami FL or Weybridge UK, is a seasoned HR professional responsible for managing the activities and performance of our Shipboard Learning and Development Specialists and Traveling Learning and Development Specialists.

The L&D Manager provides expertise, advice and coaching to team members in the areas of: talent identification and succession planning; individual, team and leadership development; facilitation and execution of training programs; needs analysis, diagnosis and the execution of learning interventions; and executive coaching.  He/she will have the authority to hire; monitor and provide performance feedback; adjust schedules and terminate employment.

In this role, the L&D Manager serves as a liaison between our shipboard and land based learning and development functions and collaborates closely with onboard leaders, HR partners and business clients.  He/she plays a critical role in ensuring that our onboard learning and development resources are aligned to our overall talent management mission.



  • Provide ongoing and proactive support and coaching to team of Learning and Development Consultants. Review activities and KPIs to ensure that the services they are providing are aligned with business needs and are successfully driving performance.
  • In conjunction with the HR Manager, assess performance and foster the ongoing development of our at sea learning and development resources through feedback, coaching, the creation of individual development plans and the sharing of best practices. Lead the planning of development initiatives for team members.
  • Closely partner with and proactively seek feedback from key leaders (HR Managers and other members of the Executive Committees, HR Business Partners and operational leaders) to ensure that activities and performance of team members align with expectations and are achieving desired outcomes.
  • Assist with interviews, selection and manage the onboarding of new team members. Monitor schedules on an ongoing basis to ensure consistent coverage is provided and aligns with agreed-upon expectations of Brand leaders.
  • Monitor the use of company approved learning tools and resources for our L&D Consultants such as (but not limited to) DiSC assessments, 360s and Employee Career Plans to ensure consistent and effective application.
  • Continuously review tools/resources utilized by our L&D Consultants and update/replace as appropriate and/or develop and introduce new tools in consultation with other members of the Learning and Development team.
  • Ensure that all relevant Learning and Development SQM policies are kept current.
  • Administer and debrief individual and team assessment instruments such as (but not limited to) 360 degree feedback tools.
  • Facilitate workshops/training programs to include leadership development, onboarding and company values. Support the roll out of new learning materials/programs to the vessels.


  • Assists in generating and publishing status reports for new builds and a variety of current L+D program launches
  • Support both land based and shipboard team with key HR Initiatives (i.e. HCM)

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in Learning & Development, Adult Education, Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Industrial/Organizational Psychology or related field is required.
  • 5+ years’ experience as an HR professional specializing in Learning and Development in an upscale hotel, cruise line or corporate organization is required. Shipboard operations knowledge required.
  • Experience applying adult learning principles and consulting, coaching, mentoring and facilitation techniques required.
  • Experience managing in a global, multi-national environment preferred.
  • Flexibility to travel globally, potentially being away from home for extended periods of time, required.
  • Exhibits passion for constant learning and demonstrates an eagerness to share that passion with others.



  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver clear, concise information and direction.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships and collaborate with leaders at all levels in the organization.
  • Ability to use excellent analytical and consultative skills to recommend strategic solutions to the business that enhance performance.
  • Self-motivated and possesses superior time management and organization skills.
  • Ability to multitask and lead in a fast-paced multicultural environment.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office programs including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and comfortable learning other required systems.



  • Standard physical demands of an office environment.
  • Facilitation requires standing for extended periods of time.
  • Sometimes requires carrying/pulling/pushing training materials in a luggage cart.
  • 50% travel required (both domestically and internationally).
  • Employee is occasionally required to walk to the dock, ascend and descend the vessel.
