Position Summary:

The Lead, Shipboard IT Architecture is a senior leadership role in Enterprise Architecture Organization. This role will have a broad array of responsibilities across Infrastructure Architecture, and Security Architecture disciplines and leads enterprise wide initiatives for Shipboard domain pertaining to Newbuild Infrastructure, Ship Modernization Architecture and Design.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads Newbuild Architecture and Design activities from an Enterprise Architecture, overseeing a matrixed/virtual organization across IT (Program Delivery Organization, Product Teams, Operations/Engineering and Technology groups)
  • Collaborates with technical peers to define strategic direction for the Newbuild Infrastructure leveraging functional and technical knowledge (SME) in Newbuild subdomain.
  • Defines High level and detail level architecture technical specification for new classes of ships
  • Fosters relationships with RCCL remote Site Office Senior Electrical Superintendents for the IT Data Infrastructure for their respective class of ships, Shipyard Management and Shipyard Integrators in design review, change order management and open issue resolution
  • Manages the General Design and Architecture phase related to IT infrastructure for new classes of ship as well as the next in class ships
  • Collaborates with internal and external groups, on future technology initiatives that may be applicable on future vessels
  • Define interdependencies with other disciplines and maintain involvement in the procurement, build, testing and deployment processes for the Newbuilds Infrastructure and overall Ship Modernization projects.
  • Responsible to lead, direct, and provide functional and technical guidance for all Newbuild Infrastructure and Ship Modernizations (Dry Docks/Revitalizations) projects
  • Responsible for IT Infrastructure budgetary estimations and reviews for each new class of vessel, based on the overall scope definition and high level requirements definition for each class of vessel.
  • Ensures alignment of EA Standards, Solution blueprint Newbuild Infrastructure and Ship Modernization all phases of the respective projects
  • Represents Enterprise Architecture leadership on Steering Committee across all respective projects
  • Project Pipeline reviews, validation across all cross functional teams and departments
  • Manages the coordination and definition of the required SATCOM systems for IT. Work with respective team and vendors on defining requirements for Above and Below Deck Equipment (ADE and BDE), inclusive of Pedestal Design, Adapter Plate Design, HVAC coordination, power requirement definition, cable type definition, cable routing requirements, interface requirements, and cable feed from dependent system requirements
  • Manages the coordination and definition of the required PBX shipboard system. Work with respective team and vendors on defining requirements for all required equipment, Phone types, mounting requirements, end user phone location, and definition of all required interfaces (analog and digital)
  • Drives the detailed Venue Planning with Newbuild Design and Architecture teams along with operational sponsors in order to define the exact location of each data drop termination on the vessel, across each and every system
  • Participation in all design meetings from concept through finalization of each venue and provide sign off on IT specifications of each area of a new vessel
  • Proactively work with product manager to identify architectural solution blueprints needed for solution build, manage the commitment and timeline
  • Drive the creation and validation of non-functional requirements concerning items such as consistency, performance, security, resiliency etc. These are especially critical in complex business scenarios
  • Own solution blueprints that provide end-end architecture for the key pieces of the solution. In this regard, they not only maintain the blueprint but are also responsible for working towards making vendor recommendations, providing candidate solutions and allowing the adoption of the best solution that will meet the program needs but also be aligned with the overall enterprise goals
  • Lead review of design and assessing the feasibility of implementation and recommending options, constraints and alternatives to product team especially when complex requirements are prohibited from implementation due to existing constraints (e.g. back end system performance or ship shore consistency of solution etc.)
  • Liaison with other architects to understand the integration scenarios and provide solutions to the cross-program blueprint level dependency analysis 
  • Responsible for reviewing the proposed solution blueprints with Engineering Lead and Product Manager prior to implementation
  • Leads creating the review material for presentation to architecture review board (ARB) where required and get closure on the solution path to be undertaken for implementation
  • Leads PoC’s where necessary to prove solution direction in coordination with product and engineering lead around resource capacity and priority
  • Leads discussions and answers complex questions regarding cross-functional IT policies and standards
  • Contributes to the establishment and use of best practices in IT policies, standards and procedures
  • Creates criteria to measure the effectiveness of IT policies, standards and procedures
  • Forecasts technological industry trends and potential risks in the implementation of defined IT policies, standards and procedures

 

Job Requirements

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s or Masters in Computer Science/Engineering or related disciplines
  • 15+ years of experience with Shipboard IT infrastructure architecture, data centers, middleware, database and cloud IaaS/PaaS/SaaS services in a large enterprise
  • Experience with defining the Vessels backbone cabling, specifically the Fiber backbone distribution network inclusive of cable type, capacity, design, and quantities necessary to support all Operational requirements
  • Experience with defining the vessels core Data Center (MDF) requirements, inclusive of concept (Single or Dual DC model), room positioning on vessel, rack counts, rack types, rack configuration concept (ie. Hot aisle / Cold aisle concept), Cable network distribution, patch panel types, cable trays, penetrations, UPS supply distribution network, HVAC heat load calculations, DC HVAC concept, Access control, fire suppression, raised floor system, etc...
  • Experience with defining the vessels core Data Center (MDF) requirements, inclusive of concept (Single or Dual DC model), room positioning on vessel, rack counts, rack types, rack configuration concept (ie. Hot aisle / Cold aisle concept), Cable network distribution, patch panel types, cable trays, penetrations, UPS supply distribution network, HVAC heat load calculations, DC HVAC concept, Access control, fire suppression, raised floor system, etc...
  • Management of the build out of a cable matrix estimation model to determine the total estimated quantity of IDF's as well as total estimated quantity of copper cables required at each respective IDF and field side locations
  • Strong expertise with estimating total necessary UPS and Main power sockets necessary to support all required IT devices
  • Hands on knowledge of vessels IDF requirements, inclusive of concept (Single or Dual rack model), room positioning on vessel, rack counts, rack types, rack configuration concept, Cable network distribution, cable trays, penetrations, UPS supply distribution network, HVAC concept and heat load calculations,  fire suppression and Access control...
  • Strong exposure to cabin cable distribution, inclusive of Cabin Automation, Door Locking System, Entertainment System, PBX, WiFi, Ship Security system, and HVAC control system
  • Experience with monitoring, control and automation system integration to the IT infrastructure to allow for the proper interfacing of respective systems
  • Proficiency in project estimations, capacity planning, availability planning and performance
  • Manage the necessary Monitoring, Control and Automation system integration to the IT infrastructure to allow for the proper interfacing of respective systems
