POSITION SUMMARY:
This position leads the long-term development, implementation, evaluation and oversight of the Live Music Program. This position reports to the Sr. Manager, Entertainment to programming that is unique to Celebrity
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Partners with the Sr. Manager of Entertainment to continuously improve and maintain the Live Music Program for the Celebrity Fleet
Keeps current of new developments, styles and techniques in musical practices, seasonal traditions, equipment and vessel implementation requirements or restrictions
Researches, develops and implements all new and enhanced musical experiences to continuously change with trends, demographics and destinations
Develops recruitment strategy and oversee auditions and overall recruitment
Leads and oversees the hiring and scheduling of qualified musicians for the Celebrity fleet
Reviews, revises and updates SQM (internal policy database), training reference guide and various other manuals as they pertain to the music Program
Leads and ensures written feedback, reports, documentation, guidelines and SOPs for shipboard and shore side management are accurate and capture established parameters
Reviews company’s guest ratings system and partner with shipboard/shore side management, Musical Directors (bandmasters) and Guest Relations to resolve problems in an effort for continual improvement
Follows Ratings trends for fleet entertainment and uses this data to support vessels to continuously help the vessels improve our entertainment product
Collaborates continually with Musical Directors (Bandmasters) to ensure success and integrity of all programming
Provides Musical Directors with on-the-job training and direction as may be required, management development, and adaptations to changes in policies, procedures and technologies
Ensures maintenance of musical instruments and general musical equipment
Manages the rehearsal process while musicians are at the Studio
Oversee travel, housing, and payment for musician training
Creates and maintains master entertainment schedules by ship and itinerary. Adjusts schedules based on itineraries, guest demographics, performance, requests, etc. Reviews staffing levels of musicians and acts to anticipate and prevent shortages and selects appropriate replacements within strict timetables and deadlines
Establishes and maintains a network of resources through the development of relationships with music schools, colleges, agencies and related resources
Manages onboarding for all musicians
Creates and develops musical events/activations/performance that will be installed across the fleet
Creates Budgets, analyzes financial data & processes invoices for the Live music budget
Develops, updates, audits and enforces the Entertainment Programming Guidelines for Celebrity Cruises
Oversees the management of music licenses

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Music or similar degree required
A minimum of at least 5 years’ experience as Musical Director, cruise ship experience a plus
Ability to travel required
Ability to evaluate musician skills such as sight-reading, intonation, appropriate musical aesthetics, range of instruments and overall musicianship
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Ability to write reports which are clear and concise, outlining solutions and recommendation of actions. Individual must have good business acumen and excellent organization skills
Must have working knowledge of personal computers within a Windows environment and proficient in Excel, PowerPoint and Access preferred
Must have strong problem-solving ability, adapting to shifting priorities and aligning activities to meet organizational goals
Must be able to evaluate and provide constructive feedback to peers in a timely manner
Must possess excellent communication, presentation skills
Must have demonstrated the ability to quickly analyze situations and alternatives and make prudent decisions
Must be demonstrating leadership skills and proactive thinking
Must demonstrate the ability to work with all levels of the organization
Must have mastered the art of asking, observing and listening
