Job Description

Position Summary:

Manage all aspects of data and analytical needs for the Royal Caribbean International Brand Finance team for operations and shipboard revenue.  Conceptualize, evaluate and develop advanced analytical tools that help the team forecast, plan, and perform ad hoc analysis for shipboard revenue and hotel and marine operations.  Develop tools to enhance data evaluation, reporting and analytics, including assembling revenue and cost data from different systems, applying advanced technical modeling for measurement of benefits and evaluation of initiatives.  Create and implement advanced operations research models (forecasting and optimization) to optimize RCI's on-board revenue and improve efficiency of hotel and marine expenses. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all activities regarding data needed for reporting and analytics.
  • Partner with internal teams to ensure that data from a variety of systems are collected and stored efficiently and accurately.   
  • Develop and maintain the analytical tools used by the On-board Revenue Team and other Operations teams (including but not limited to MTD Report) to track revenue and expenses on a daily or weekly basis and provide real-time visibility to financial results as they come in.
  • Create new business intelligence tools to improve forecasting ability and variance explanations by synthesizing data from different sources, including Hyperion queries, payroll data, Crunchtime, AMOS as well as shipboard data.
  • Develop vision and create buy-in with stakeholders for building a suite of executive-level reports in Microsoft BI that can be leveraged across the operations departments and to the ships, providing real-time cost and revenue information as well as scenario analyses and predictive analytics.
  • Establish project plans that outline project milestones regarding data automation, forecasting, optimization, or benefits measurements projects.  Ensure that modeling and analytic work in support of other teams' initiatives is completed per project plans and timelines.  Convene cross-functional teams to deliver projects. 
  • Create and manage effective working relationships with IT, finance team, and operations team to ensure the most relevant ideas and techniques are implemented.
  • Streamline different financial reporting platforms into Microsoft BI in order to create a consistent look and feel across disparate operational teams, ensuring accuracy and integrity of data is paramount.
  • Develop and maintain standard and ad hoc reporting
  • Conduct revenue analysis including volume/rate (yield) relationships
  • Analyze operating results by decision-relevant variables.
  • Identify and quantify opportunities to improve KPI's through information gathering and analysis.


Job Requirements


  • Degree in Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Economics or other quantitative discipline, or similar combination of education and experience required.
  • 5+ years of experience in Operations Research or statistically related field, integrating mathematical concepts with business principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including but not limited to formulas (sumif, lookups, etc.), pivot tables and macros.
  • Ability to read VBA a must.  Ability to write VBA a plus.
  • Natural curiosity and inquisitive nature.  Ability to problem solve with minimal direction. Highly resourceful, self-motivated and results-driven.
  • Ability to prioritize and perform tasks efficiently in a timely and accurate manner. Sense of urgency. Strict adherence to deadlines.
  • Highly analytical, organized, disciplined and detail-oriented.  Attention to detail and accuracy of data are imperative. 
  • Deep understanding of data: including awareness of different data sources, how to interpret the data, and what the data means to the reports we publish.
  • Ability to recognize errors and inconsistencies in the data and make adjustments as necessary.  Appreciation of the importance of data integrity.
  • Ability to adapt to change and multi-task.
  • Ability to assimilate ideas/concepts into data driven models and strategies.
  • Strong Operations Research modeling skills (optimization and linear programming, etc.).
  • Database and analytical programming skills (including SAS and SQL, etc.)
  • Understanding of database design and information systems, structure, functions and processes, and experience with database tools.
  • Project management experience in organizing, planning and executing projects from conception through implementation.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.  Ability to consolidate large quantities of data and summarize results in a clear, concise and coherent manner. 
  • Understanding of the business in order to validate findings and conclusions and ensure data integrity and accuracy at all times
