Job Description

The Director, Asset Management and Fleet Maintenance, is responsible for developing strategic maintenance and inventory optimization activities,  monitoring maintenance performance, recommending interventions to improve performance, ownership of maintenance policies, practices and procedures across the corporate brands

Oversee AMOS operations across all brands and implement management processes for AMOS related projects and day to day operations, aligned to PMO strategies and processes

Implement and oversee the maintenance strategy for all corporate brands to ensure maximum value for the corporation while maintaining high reliability and safe operations.

Review maintenance policies within the Maintenance Database (AMOS), and SQM, in order to comply with the RCL Global maintenance strategy, manufacturer’s recommendations, and other government bodies such as DNV, ISO 9000, Flag State, etc.

The Director, Asset Management and Fleet Maintenance, is a representative of RCCL corporate and works at a high level acting as an advisor to the Shipboard Maintenance Teams, Operations Teams and Technical Services on matters related to maintenance and inventory control. This includes interaction with the New Build (NB) department as required.

This position will report directly to S.Vice President GMO & Fleet Optimization


  • Strategic Maintenance Program: Develop, implement and maintain fleet wide maintenance strategy including Condition Based Maintenance and Maintenance Optimization (the reduction, and/or consolidation of, maintenance tasks in order to minimize cost and risk whilst increasing the efficiency of available man hours within the fleet through standardization)
  • Stock Optimization Program: Develop, implement and maintain sound stock and inventory control practices for both shore side and ship board installations in order to fully utilize existing inventory and minimize excessive spend and risk.
  • Work closely with Supply Chain Management to improve spare part availability. Investigate vendor supplied services to reduce inventory burden on the corporation.
  • Implement a condition based maintenance (CBM) strategy into the current planned maintenance system in order to reduce the financial impact of planned maintenance and work load on ship staff, whilst simultaneously increasing reliability, safety and compliance.
  • Provide advice to vessels and ship managers on fleet machinery condition based monitoring and work with service providers to maximize performance of the condition based monitoring systems and reduce the incidence of failures. Communicate findings and best practices to the Operations and Technical Services teams.
  • Work closely with Classification Societies on new and innovative ways of performing both condition based and periodic maintenance.
  • Implement sound management processes and techniques to AMOS operations across all brands.
  • Prioritize projects and day to day operations and utilize department staff in the most efficient way possible.
  • Direct and support Asset Management projects ensuring adherence to PMO and Global Project Management Standards.
  • Investigate and asses existing and new technologies to improve maintenance and inventory management across the corporation.
  • Support Operations and GMTS on continuous improvement of the fleet maintenance plan, including: criticality ranking of equipment in order to minimize unplanned maintenance and failure of critical machinery.
  • Design and implement risk analysis based maintenance strategies and lead FMECA (Failure mode, effects and criticality analysis) in order to provide a decision support system to operations and ship board executive committees.
  • Continuously improve RCI maintenance strategies and inventory management.
  • Participate in monitoring equipment performance in service and provide feedback to New-Build teams with reference to projected maintenance performance and costs for Life Cycle Cost Calculations.
  • Follow-up on incidents as assigned, investigate, evaluate and implement corrective actions, procedures, changes as needed.
  • Review maintenance and through life costs of new build vessels.
  • Develop, implement and manage Asset Management Digitalization Strategy in coordination with PMO in order to expand business analysis capabilities of the Marine Operation and drive data driven decision making.
  • Develop implement and maintain Asset Management Business Analytics Strategy, including Performance Management, Process Improvement, and special safety and operational efficiency studies, workshops and initiatives to further the GMO data driven decision making.
  • Manages and participates in the study of operational needs and current operational performance both afloat and ashore to determine optimal working procedures and systems, and to identify areas for improvement and efficiency on assigned projects or of selected resources.
  • Facilitates communication between internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate communication, project execution, performance management and ensure cohesion with international GMO resources in the UK and Asia.
  • The position requires travel to and from ships, shipyards and /or vendor facilities (<= 30%).
  • Remains current with industry trends, especially as related to contemporary management techniques.

Job Requirements


  • The annual budget for RCCL planned maintenance is in excess of $150m. Develop practices and efficiencies that increase value of both maintenance practices and the efficiency of AMOS operations departments. Reduce and/or eliminate wasted resources in way of budget and man-hours by developing a maintenance strategy that also increases focus on reliability and compliance that ultimately reduces unplanned machinery down time.
  • Strategizes with financial analyst on economic feasibility analysis for project options, alternatives and life cycle costs.
  • Responsible for Management of Asset Management Cost Center SG&A budget of approximately $800k.

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree with a concentration Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering OR in Business, Project Management or related field or related field with demonstrated project management experience. 
  • In depth understanding of project management processes. Professional accreditation is preferable.
  • Experience: 5-10 years with 2-5 years of experience leading a team.
  • Fluent in English.


  • Strong leadership skills and proven experience in leading a medium to large size team of professionals.
  • Solid written and verbal communications skills; particularly within a multicultural environment.  Clear and precise communication with all levels of the organization are essential. 
  • Strong ability to interact with senior management team and build effective relationships within the company as well as with internal and external customers.

  • Strong decision making skills considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Creativity and strategic thinker.
  • Must possess knowledge of the hospitality industry, current market trends, and economic factors; preferably within an international organization and accustomed to working with a highly diverse and remote work group.
  • Understanding of advanced Engineering concepts, design theories and technical drawings necessary to assist in maintenance evaluation and special project planning.
  • Excellent organization and presentation skills.
  • Solid understanding of accounting rules for expense and capital activities.
  • Software: High Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Project required. 
  • Internal candidates:  Knowledge of AMOS, M&P, other CMMS systems, Lotus Notes Database, the CAR process, budget, approval, reconciliation and reporting.
  • Language requirements: Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific, engineering and technical journals, business periodicals, financial reports, legal documents, and government regulations. b.Ability to clearly and effectively present information to top management and public groups.
