Position Summary:

All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with Royal Caribbean International’s brand standards, SQM standards, USPH guidelines, environment, and safety policies.

The Balloon Ground Crew are in charge of flights and as such has the right to refuse entry to disembark any passenger who may present a danger to the safety of security of the guests and employees. Reporting to the Pilot and are to support the pilot and receive instruction from the Pilot. Flights will take place multiple times per hour per call day, commencing with a test flight for Safety checks. This provides an exceptional guest experience always with Safety in mind of guests and crew.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ground crew/operators are stationed on the boarding pass.
  • The role is to manage the embarkation and disembarkation procedures in liaison with the pilot oversee the visitors during then waiting time.
  • Monitor the landing platform during the flight I want the pilot of any danger on the ground.
  • Operate the winch in the case of malfunction in communication with the pilot in order to effect retrieval from the ground.
  • Following the emergency procedures moor the balloon following instruction from the pilot.
  • In moor mode. Monitor the site and ensure that that all parameters are followed as per the Flight Manual.
  • Complete up the Morning Ground crew check list and the closing ground crew check list always with Safety of the area, guests and crew in mind.
  • Assist the Pilot as required for the following.
  • Performing test flights and recording daily, weekly, monthly inspections as outlined in the Safety manuals
  • The pilot will be fully conversant in the balloon envelope, load ring, control systems, landing platform pulley and cable, main winch and mooring points. Training will be providing and certification granted after fully completing the course – a minimum of 40 hours
  • Understand and be familiar with safety flying positions.
  • Be capable of making sound judgment of whether to fly or not and understand the major effects of weather.
  • Be capable after training of understanding calculation of passenger load and when and how to make a decision to stop flights.
  • Know how to respond safely to emergency situations, recovery of the balloon by the Ground crew whilst on board.
  • Understand and have the capability to respond swiftly and calmly in the event of an incident.
  • Have a proven knowledge of first aid and basic firefighting procedures.
  • Have the ability to conduct routine maintenance safely which will include the ability to climb to conduct this visual checks and inspections.
  • Comprehension of meteorology, how to read forecasts assessing conditions major effects of whether humidity pressure temperature wait helium purity.
  • Have the ability to conduct and complete routine maintenance daily weekly monthly quarterly annual recordkeeping observation and of course must have the ability to climb.

Financial Responsibilities:

  • To ensure accurate recording of any Island reservations in order to charge the guest accounts
  • Communicate technical needs of any repair and maintenance needs which have significant financial impact

 

Job Requirements

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests.
  • Ability to read and write English, in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, managers and co-workers.
  • First Aid and Basic Fire Fighting and Emergency response procedures.
  • Proven experience either flying balloon or a parasail operation.
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Comprehension of meteorology and understand and read forecasts assessing conditions.
  • Previous experience in a highly focused customer facing environment.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of College Diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of two (2) years related experience and/or training.
  • Ability to work positively and cooperatively in a diverse team environment to meet overall established time frames for the island operation.
  • Rescue training indicative of the Island/ Water Park Environment
  • Firefighting, first aid, emergency response and Safety training
  • Qualifications for Ground crew follow a specific training course organized by the general manager. Upon completion, a written exam, which should be retained, provides verification that the ground crew member is familiar with the procedures of characters in flight in all modes of operation and that they’re competent to assume the required responsibilities after passing the exam the general manager will issue a declaration of level competence a DLC which the ground crew member signs to accept that they have completed the training course.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste and smell.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must have the ability and fitness level that allows climbing.
  • All island employees must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills.
  • Full use/range of motion of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency.
