Job Description

Position Summary:

Responsible to interface with Entertainment and Cruise Programs to develop specifications for entertainment systems primary being Entertainment Sound, Light, Rigging and Broadcast Room including Satellite signals. Also developing specifications for displays in Public spaces, Stateroom TV’s and associated sound or light systems. Liaise with Marine Department, to include Hotel Operations (Entertainment) needs from PA/GA to interface with LES. Coordinate technical requirements for architectural lighting including interfaces to LES. Consult with Architects and Designers with regard to Entertainment Technology and Audio Visual Technology. Liaise with art provider with regard to technical details for Audio Visual, Lighting and specialized systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Primary person to lead and advise Entertainment and Cruise Program departments and related consultants, across all brands, to define entertainment systems requirements and specifications for projects and oversee them from pre-project phase until operational successful handover.
  • Collaborate with other departments (IT, Global Security etc.) to ensure that technical information is collected and documented in architectural design phase.
  • Independently plans, manages, guides, and oversees projects, while cross coordinating and sharing best practices effectively between consultants, brand operations, system suppliers and builders.
  • Ensures that specifications for entertainment systems and architectural lighting are created, considering proper balance across innovation, function, cost, life cycle, efficiencies, and continuous improvements. 
  • Main leader for outside SLVR and architectural lighting consultants, ensuring that there are well-defined processes, and deliverables which are on time and within costs (including consultancy cost and design cost complexity). 
  • Coordinate with architectural design responsible persons such that technical requirements for architectural design are well defined before architect assignments/contacts are done (power & communication plans, lighting plans etc.) in order to ensure that all needed information is included in work scopes and that there is no overlap between scope of works. 
  • Initiates and ensures close collaboration with architects and designers giving advice and instruction on the integration of equipment with the design.
  • Consults with art/signage consultants to ensure lighting, video, TV, LED, etc. needs are specified and met.
  • Liaise with Marine & Hotel Operations, as necessary for PA systems, LES interface, etc. 
  • Coordinates with shipyards, contractors, and makers on the design supply and installation, including periodic site visits to as quality checks, and sign off of systems during design phase and at time of delivery. 
  • Coordinates with shipyards on technical requirements for needed interfaces (e.g. architectural lighting, PA system, etc.) interfaces to LES.
  • Effectively delegates assignments and imparts knowledge to others as necessary. 
  • Attends trade exhibitions, undertakes periodic research seeking knowledge and understands state of the art equipment. 
  • Participates in new technology development and special projects as internal technical expert. 
  • Upholds SQM practices thru all phases of work.

Job Requirements


  • Minimum 4 years professional theater experience, shipboard/shore side and 4 years large scale projects.  
  • Degree in electrical engineering or audio engineering with emphasis on low voltage. 
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and requirements for vessel operations for ISO 14001. 
  • A minimum of two years of experience in developing designs, specifications, drawings, and the ability to implement them into an architectural design.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Working knowledge of personal computers within a Windows environment. Proficiency in MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint, required. 
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with multiple priorities. 
  • Independent decision making skills.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Strong communication skills, responsive public relations.
  • Extensive travel required. Must be strong communicator. 
  • Exhibits advanced capabilities in written, oral, and graphic media.
  • Represents department and self in a competent professional manner.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those requirements employees must meet to perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodations.  While performing job functions the employee is regularly required to sit, and stand, write, review and type reports, compile data, operate a PC, communicate, listen, and assess information.  The employee may move about the office complex, may travel to other office locations and may lift, push, pull or move 10-15 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to walk to the dock, ascend and descend the vessel. This position may regularly travel domestically or internationally. Visual requirement include distant, close and color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. The environment includes work inside/outside the office, travel to other offices, possibly travel domestic and international, and work in shipboard functions. A high noise level is possible if visiting shipboard or offsite locations.
