Job Description

SUMMARY: The Senior Database Developer analyzes and examines the business to define needs and/or opportunities by gathering and analyzing data and recommending a course of action.

This role is responsible for managing complex data from reservation system, shipboard point of sales (POS) and property management system (PMS), ii) creating reports and delivering presentations to executives or department heads of different revenue areas including food and beverage, casino and concession areas to assess the current business performance and understand business risks in order to meet year end forecasts, iii) continuously improving existing forecasting models to improve forecast accuracy, and iv) proactively anticipate data and analytical needs from different business areas and develop automated processes to promote new analytical tools. This role also actively works with IT to address any data related issues or system improvements. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining shipboard revenue management systems,Business Intelligence reporting and user tools. Update current processes in PL/SQL and SAS for changing business patterns and to improve performance. Conduct statistical analyses of business data, evaluate trends and pattern changes, and learn to disperse results in a format appropriate for the audience.
  • Clearly explain tools and results to both operation teams and executives. Develop and conduct clear, concise presentations to executives or department heads. Continuously search for potential business improvements, revenue opportunity and efficiency gains.
  • Respond to ad-hoc data and analysis needs while supporting various projects. Learn the point of sale (POS), property management system (PMS) and Data Warehouse systems in order to pull various data sets required for ad hoc analysis. 

 

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master in Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or Applied Statistics preferred, but not required. Bachelors’ degree in Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or Applied Statistics required.
  • 3-5 years related experience and/or training in an analytic or quantitative discipline required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience managing and validating big data required. Database experience required. In-depth experience in business intelligence, data analytics, and project management required. Point of sale (POS) or property management system (PMS) experience preferred. 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement applications using a programming language, especially PL/SQL and SAS.
  • Ability to lead a project from start to finish, and communicate clearly and effectively to business and technical audiences in both spoken and written formats.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical skills and knowledge of applied statistics.
  • Successfully apply quantitative methods and techniques, including forecasting, linear regressions, optimization and statistical analyses.
  • Experience in forecasting, optimization or data modeling.
