Job Description

Position Summary:

Investigates and evaluates personal injury and/or medical claims against Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises (38+ ships), attempts to effect out of court settlement with claimant, and assists counsel with litigation defense.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend departmental meetings and present their selected cases or issues for discussion.
  • Board ship (independently or accompanied by defense attorneys) to conduct investigations and interviews of guest(s), crewmember(s), and/or Officer(s).
  • Review guest statements and accident reports (as prepared by Safety Officer) and informs Supervisor and/or Manager of potential trends.
  • Open and adjust files for active guest claims.
  • Open incident and/or claims in the Risk Management Claim System (Riskonnect)
  • Notify the appropriate P&I Club or other insurance carriers and keep them updated, review reserves and provide updates.
  • Investigate claims for all facts.  Evaluate, and determine potential liability.
  • Correspond with guest(s) or their attorney in an effort to resolve their claim.
  • Handle litigation files and provide discovery documents and/or information requested by defense attorneys.
  • Meets with defense attorneys to review files and determine a strategy for company defense (settle, or litigate)
  • Prepare settlement drafts and releases 
  • Attend mediations, depositions and/or trials as a company representative.
  • Coordinate medical air evacuations and/or disembarkation to shoreside hospital facilities for guests afflicted with a medical condition or illness.
  • On a weekly rotation schedule, will be given and be responsible for the Guest Claims 24/7 Cellular phone and to handle all incoming emergency calls.
  • Communicate with the vessels and shoreside departments for additional documentation and information.
  • Maintains harmony among staff members and resolves grievances.


Job Requirements


  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent four-year education preferred.
  • 3-7 years insurance company or Third-Party Administrator, bodily injury claim adjusting experience, or comparable experience.
  • Must be able to travel 10% of the time.
  • Must be able to retain a flexible schedule
  • Ability to speak, read, and write a second language is preferred
