Position Summary:

The Newbuilding & Innovation Department at Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd is one of the driving forces in helping the corporation maintain its position of leadership in the cruise line industry. Within Newbuilding and Innovation, the Business Excellence team provides a source of continuous improvements by assisting the teams within Newbuilding & Innovation with process improvements, problem solving expertise and unique solutions. These services grow ever more important and significant as the department grows in size and our portfolio in complexity and scale. To ensure the continued success of the Newbuilding & Innovation department, it is necessary to elevate our communication tools and methods; specifically, our department’s intranet.

The Business Excellence team has identified the need to evolve the department’s current intranet into an information hub that is truly reflective of the type and quality of work the department does. This means taking the intranet from a one-dimensional set of pages to an interactive information source central to the department’s day-to-day operations that is able to keep pace with our agile way of working. The end result will be a sustainable, modern and easy to maintain intranet that integrates seamlessly with our other tools and software.

The Web-Developer will be primarily responsible for the design, development and deployment of the Newbuilding and Innovation’s intranet page. As a member of the Business Excellence Team, you will work regularly with the various teams within the department by assessing their needs and identifying their expectations. The Web-developer will be expected to also develop and maintain KPIs for the intranet to measure and monitor not only during development but once deployed as well. The web-developer will meet with leadership to provide updates on the progress of the intranet and report on its success and usage statistics. The Web-developer will support the Business Excellence team other efforts and projects as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, development and deployment of the new department intranet page via WordPress.
  • Provide a method by which content owners can easily update and keep relevant their material on the intranet.
  • Develop, and communicate as needed, training and familiarization material for the intranet.
  • Define KPIs for the intranet to evaluate its progress and success.
  • Regular debugging and problem solving as needed to ensure intranet functions as designed and desired.
  • Actively monitor for opportunities for improvement from user feedback.
  • Support the Business Excellence team in intranet- and internet-based communication projects and tasks.

Job Requirements


  • Associates’ or Bachelors’ (preferred) in IT, Computer-related, or Graphic Design-related field
  • Rising seniors entering their final year of college can be accommodated
  • Proven record of web page development and deployment experience

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong working knowledge of at least one of the following: Java, JavaScript, CSS/HTML(Preferred), Python, PHP (preferred), C++
  • Working experience with WordPress (required) and Azure/AWS (preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate graphic and design elements into web pages
  • Ability to work with different media and file types (video, slideshows, images, pdfs, etc), and integrate into web pages
  • Ability to manage trade off between quality and time needed to develop
  • Possess ability to prioritize tasks to meet provided deadlines
  • Working familiarity development and monitoring of KPIs for monitor intranet page traffic and use
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate in a multicultural environment with all levels of employees and management
  • Strong drive to take initiative and self-learn, and work independently when necessary
  • Possess analytical capabilities with a passion for providing innovative and impactful insights
  • Excellent documentation, presentation, and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of personal computers within a Windows, iOS and mobile environment
  • Working knowledge in Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and priorities
  • Solid written and verbal English communication skills are a must
  • Clear and precise communication at all levels of an organization
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various departments within the organization, both shipboard and shore side, audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
