Job Description

GENERAL PURPOSE: This is a senior role in our Network Engineering team which works with all technical and business areas of the company to provide connectivity locally and internationally in the cruise line industry. The Sr Network Engineer is responsible for the operation, design and management of the RCL LAN and WAN Networks (Shipside and Shoreside), WIFI and security services with a goal to continuously improve network operations and performance. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Designs and deploy functional networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN, CLOUD)
  • Resolves issues that tiers of support have escalated
  • Mentors team members and addressing user needs
  • Acts as Team Lead for the administration and maintenance infrastructure as directed by IT Managers
  • Coordinates change management initiatives
  • Researches and recommend products and solutions that will enhance the network.
  • Automates tasks and monitor their effectiveness
  • Create, oversee and test security measures (e.g. access authentication and disaster recovery)
  • Provides oversight in new builds for ships and represents the network team during projects and calls.
  • Investigates complex routing issues and traffic packet through packet captures and other methods.
  • Assists in lab testing and user acceptance tests.
  • Works closely with other technical and business teams during design.
  • Participates in an on-call rotation at least every two months to support any critical issue on the network.

 

 

 

Job Requirements

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Minimum of 5 years of Industry-related experience as a Senior Network Engineer 
  • Professional certification (e.g. CCNP, CCDP)
  • Solid background in network administration and architecture
  • In-depth understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g. EIGRP, BGP)
  • Familiarity with access control models and network security
  • Knowledge of coding languages for scripting (e.g Python, Perl)
  • Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools (e.g. Netscout, SolarWinds, Nagios, Infoblox network tools)
  • Solid understanding of network operating systems (Cisco IOS, NXOS, etc)
  • Sharp troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Organizational and mentoring skills
