Position Summary:

Administers PEME [pre-employment medical exam]and REME [returning employee medical exam] policies and practices for Royal Caribbean, Azamara, Pullmantur and Celebrity cruises for shipboard crew.  Reviews medical records and reports for newly hired and returning crewmembers to determine fitness for duty at sea. Tracks, monitors and provides guidance/education for crew in wellness program needing extra follow up care. Assists with additional Medical & Public Health and Crew Wellness projects as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Secure confidential PEME/REME information such as medical records, lab reports, x-ray reports, or pre-employment records for review from approved PEME providers/Shipboard Human Resources
  • Review and interpret crew employment physical examinations, lab and diagnostic results for 24,000 + candidates to ensure they meet company and flag state standards
  • Ensure that applicants who have received employment offers can perform, with or without accommodation, the essential functions of the job in which hired.  Identify if applicant poses any health or safety risks to themselves or others to determine whether fit to work at sea
  • Notify shipboard Human Resources of whether crew is deemed fit or unfit for shipboard duty
  • Perform follow-up to achieve PEME/REME compliance on all prospective applicants
  • Compile records and prepare reports.  Maintain medical records in organized manner.  Document all PEME/REME approvals and denials in PEME database.  Escalate communication internally to PEME Lead.
  • Communicate with the vessels, crew applicants and shoreside departments for documentation and information on PEME/REME issues.  Coordinate PEME/REME activities with Shipboard Human Resources.  Document actions taken
  • Tracks, coordinates and provides guidance/education for crew in wellness program needing extra follow up care. Identify and report information on crew with chronic health conditions to Crew Wellness Nurse

 

Job Requirements

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) from a four year college or university with specialty in nursing or some other health related field
  • An Associate Degree in Nursing may be substituted for the Bachelor’s Degree if they have greater than five years of related experience/training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • LPN may be substituted with pre-employment medical records review experience and/or 4-6 years of related experience
  • Those with RN/LPN licensure should have a good knowledge base of basic medical-surgical skills, ideally a minimum of 4-6 years of recent hospital based experience
  • Active RN license in good standing
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Be a healthy role model with the ability to communicate healthy lifestyle practices and behavior modifications to crew
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment
  • Demonstrate d ability to maintain confidentiality of private health information
  • Proficiency in counseling and knowledge of immunizations, blood pressure, body mass index, cholesterol, diabetes, glucose and other chronic disease management
  • Highly developed organizational skills and ability to follow-through with organized tasks
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal
  • Demonstrated skills in database management
  • Computer skills necessary to accomplish requirements of position including word processing, related facility software and internet research tools
