Position Summary: 
The Manager, Security is responsible for managing the security program for all vessels and for specific ports and terminals as directed.  This position will provide expertise regarding shipboard security operation, fleet security regulatory and ISPS related requirements and port terminal security matters, including administration of the security sections of the Safety Management System.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Actively manage the security program onboard company ships and in the associated terminal facilities.  This includes the development and maintenance of ship security plans that conform with all regulatory and/or Flag State requirements.

  • Assist in identifying port security issues for improvement and possible solutions.

     

  • Attend and participate in meetings with security organizations, vendors, consultants, and government authorities (e.g. FBI, CBP, Homeland Security, DEA, USCG).

     

  • Provide assistance to corporate security staff in formulating policy as related to shipboard and port terminal security, including development of a port security audit program.

     

  • Serve as the primary editor for the Security section of the Safety Management System, including new development, updates, and security audits.

     

  • Serve as liaison with the Human Resources Department to provide thorough reviews and recommendations regarding the hiring and assigning of shipboard security staff.

     

  • Participate in the development of long-range planning and objectives in the area of Security.

     

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for technical Superintendents for any issue related to security equipment. Direct CCTV operation, maintenance and enhancements.

     

  • Support the ships with all onboard security matters including equipment, plans, training and certification

     

  • Serve as liaison between the port and the ships regarding port security issues.

     

  • Develop and implement Global Security recruiting program for all onboard security positions.

     

  • The incumbent will be required to travel, depending on itinerary 15- 30 days

     

  • Support and assist with the development, planning and implementation of security systems during new build projects, including Ship Security Assessment and Ship Security Plan

Job Requirements

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills: 

  • The qualifications and training shall conform to all international and national conventions and regulations.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Industrial security, international business, criminology or equivalent
  • Experience in Aviation or Maritime industries preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of maritime operational security related experience is required; counter terrorism tactical experience in the maritime/aviation industries will be an advantage
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate in a multicultural environment with all levels of employees and management
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Prior experience in managerial coaching and team-building in a similar environment is essential.
  • Computer skills to an advanced operation level in Word, Excel and Power Point are essential.
  • Self-driven to continually improve and actively works to bridge gaps in their knowledge in order to add more value to a particular project or setting.
  • Innovative and process driven induvial who thrives in a start-up atmosphere rather than maintaining an already built system
  • Strong organization skills
  • Demonstrate a high degree of creativity and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to collaborate across organizations and ships
  • Capable of working independently and within a team, regardless of setting, must be self-driven and passionate.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
