Position Summary:

This position is responsible for overseeing and managing the technical operation for Royal Caribbean Entertainment. This would include personnel as well as equipment for all shipboard venues and the shoreside production facility ensuring all runs efficiently at expected standards. Oversees technical standards and performance level of production personnel are adhered to by providing leadership and guidance for all Entertainment Technical staff. Oversees the provision, repair and maintenance function of technical systems for RCCL Fleet, with Global Marine Technical Services department as assigned; assists in developing and implementing strategies to reduce expenditures and minimize deficiencies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees fleetwide technical operation and ensures all equipment is maintained in order for operation to run at expected standard consistently.
  • Builds relationships with technical vendors ensuring the operation is receiving complete support 24/7 so that there are no show stops or dark shows due to technical malfunction.
  • Works closely with Directors of Entertainment, Executive Production Team ensuring equipment any replacement equipment is specified for projects are at expected standards.
  • Develops official technical training program ensuring all technicians are trained properly. Training program will also include a career path for in-house technical staff.
  • Develops “TMS” – Technical Management System which is a key component in tracking equipment and personnel.
  • Ensures all on board technical staff are at 100% par consistently and placed appropriately according to skill set. Works with technical scheduler and recruiter to always stay ahead of par needs. Observes and evaluates such employees and work procedures to ensure quality standards and integrity are met.
  • Oversees and manages the scheduling of Stage & Production Managers and onboard teams in order to maintain the high-quality standards required for the product. This manager is an advocate for these teams, and a bridge between shipboard and shoreside.
  • Assists with the development and execution of relevant and innovative public relations plan to attract top entertainment industry professionals to the brand. Develops relationships with entertainment training schools and educational institutions to create ground breaking intern, training and development channels 
  • Builds compelling cases to ensure Royal Caribbean technical operation compensation and total rewards is at standard of global entertainment including land operations that compete with Royal Caribbean Entertainment.
  • Partners with Royal Caribbean Sales, Marketing, Events Planning and Corporate Communication Departments etc…. to provide guidance for all entertainment production and technical needs as it relates to Sales/Marketing conferences, special events, full ship charters and groups.
  • During ship visits - Mentors, develops and provides on-the-job guidance and training to subordinates to strengthen their current performance and preparation for future advancement.
  • Implements Royal Caribbean International’s Royal Way Brand Standards for the entertainment technical function. Identifies SOP opportunities and ensures action is taken.

Job Requirements


  • Minimum of five years progressive managerial experience in professional and theatrical entertainment with specific emphasis on technical.
  • Bachelor’s degree in theater management or related field from an accredited college or university, the international equivalent, or the work experience equivalent preferred.
  • Sound knowledge of Entertainment Production & Technical applications that may apply to Entertainment onboard our vessels.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written skills.
  • Candidate must possess strong leadership skills, time management skills, and written and oral communication skills and be able to effectively communicate with all senior levels of operational personnel.
  • Knowledge of computer skills to include word, excel, power point/keynote etc.
