Position Summary

Prepares itinerary analysis to identify global tax issues relating to ship deployment; prepare VAT, GST, Freight Tax, income tax and other global tax filings related to ship deployment; maintains accounting brands and VAT flags for all ships/voyages in AS400; prepare Income Tax provisions and tax forecast; assists in the calculation of Fin 48 and preparation of required footnotes and disclosures; assists in gathering data for examinations by global tax authorities; assists the Deployment and Tax Strategy team with any other tasks and projects as necessary.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conducts research to determine the international direct and indirect tax impact and consequences of proposed deployment and itineraries of ships and prepares memoranda to document tax positions taken and advice obtained.
  • Assist providing support to the shipboard team during the various tax seasons in order to comply with local tax laws and regulations.
  • Assists in the calculation of Fin 48 and preparation of required footnotes and disclosures.
  • Prepare Income Tax forecasts, provision and true-ups journal entries.
  • Gather appropriate data, analyze accounts and GL records in order to prepare VAT, GST, Freight Tax, and other global tax returns. Reviews certain tax returns and calculations prepared by outside consultants.
  • Prepare and coordinate timely tax payments to various income tax authorities (Italy, Spain, China, Australia & Brazil).
  • Reconciles tax accounts, prepares budgets and forecasts of VAT, GST, Freight Tax and other global taxes.
  • Assist in global tax audits and respond to notices received from tax authorities relating to the above-mentioned tax filings.
  • Engage in special projects as needed by the Tax Strategy and Deployment team, including but not limited to ship deployment taxes, transfer pricing, mergers and acquisition and tax restructuring.
  • Serves as a resource for tax department management in assisting with the day-to-day issues and inquiries that arise from all areas of the company.


Job Requirements


  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, concentration in taxation desirable.
  • Certified Public Accountant or candidate preferred.
  • 2 plus years of experience at a public accounting firm or in-house corporate tax department preferred.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and independently toward multiple deadlines with little supervision.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, including the ability to simplify technical jargon, public speaking ability.
  • Strong research, analytical and reasoning skills.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Must be detail oriented, self-motivated and organized
  • Team player with positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Strong excel skills
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
