Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

This position will develop, demonstrate and implement long term strategies that will improve our onboard key systems life cycle, reduce overall expenditure, and minimize deficiencies as well as potential impact on the overall product and ensure regulatory requirements for all RCCL brands. Technical responsibilities include but are not limited to laundry, galley equipment, recreational water facilities, marquee attractions plus public health compliance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads all technical projects from inception to completion, ensuring on time, on budget delivery of project outputs by working closely with shipboard Executive Committees, Marine Operations and Hotel Operations to ensure flawless project implementations.
  • Develops & implements long term strategies, goals & plans as to the maintenance of our key systems for the fleet that falls under Accommodations Maintenance
  • Utilizes quantitative methodologies to model complex business problems and develop recommendations for improvements.
  • Ensures budgetary adherence for all brands.
  • Develops and manages condition reviews & processes, for all key systems onboard our ships along with the Travelling Hotel Maintenance Managers, onboard Hotel Maintenance Managers and 3 shore side managers.
  • Analysis and monitoring of AVO (IssuTrax/ HOTSOS) system & trends related to technical deficiencies within the fleet .
  • Identifies metrics to measure the performance of each technical system, this includes tracking these metrics and reporting on the metrics and status of the systems on a regular basis to management.
  • Research & development for obsolete technologies with alternative solutions, develops cost benefit analysis.
  • Implements and manages matrix of critical spare part inventory for the fleet by class vessel as well as for all new build vessels.
  • Provides visibility to the administration division with appropriate documentation as to financial forecast needs, based on a three year plan, in order to instate a long term preventive maintenance plan for the fleet for key systems.
  • Manages on a daily basis all aspects of Planned Maintenance and its processes:  Building, monitoring, Preventive maintenance, and Unplanned maintenance
  • Assess shipboard technical crew skill set in each of the field required, develops training programs and certifications in conjunction with our hiring partners and HR department and implement as required in view of ensuring proper & efficient repair methods are used.
  • Builds effective Riding Crew Teams and manages skill sets
  • Leads key fleet objectives such as fuel savings, public health and workplace safety.
  • Develops and implements processes to ensure quality of execution of project implementation.
  • Works closely with new build to ensure flawless communication, introduction and execution of projects with our shipboard teams. These projects include ones driven by refurbishment, dry dock or the launch of new vessels.
  • Supports the fleet with day to day technical support, emergencies and projects implementation as required

 

Job Requirements

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Average $50million / Year R&M budget and capital, all brands.
  • Develop & Manage Capital Appropriations needed for the fleet that falls under the technical department, from justifications, to cost control and on time delivery of projects within budget.
  • Manage all costs related to implementation of projects throughout the fleet within technical division under Operating expense

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor degree from accredited school in Marine Engineering required, with a concentration in Project Management and / or Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience required.
  • 7 years of experience in a managerial position with multiple units and / or large complex projects.
  • Relevant experience as Marine/Mechanical Engineer is a must, with a shipping company, classification society or similar.
  • Previous experience as Hotel Maintenance Manager/ Chief Engineer preferred.
  • 30% travel

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Must be well versed in areas of Maritime engineering and be familiar with various operating systems onboard (HVAC, Electrical, Mechanical, Engine etc) Detailed understanding of Shipboard or resort programming and operations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills as well as very strong negotiating, and persuasive abilities. Conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle fast paced decision making and crisis management.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and logistical thinking abilities.
  • Strong working knowledge of regulations governing the Marine industry under IMO, such as ,Lloyds, ISM, SOLAS / DNV, USPH, and understand how to access information when required.
  • Proficiency in Excel, MS Word, MS Project or equivalent, PowerPoint, AMOS required
  • Must possess great communication skills, with all levels of the organization
