Job Description

Position Summary:

  • This position is responsible for the overall vision, direction and performance of all shipboard and shore side entertainment, activities and technical elements to deliver a Modern Luxury experience. The AVP, Entertainment researches and identifies new entertainment and programming based on global trends and guest feedback in order to incorporate the programming fluidly into the overall guest experience.
  • The AVP, Entertainment leads the capital planning and budget for both shipboard and the FIU Entertainment Stuido (“The Studio”) for both visionary development and operations. Establishes and maintains corporate and shipboard operating/quality control standards for entertainment and activities programming.
  • The AVP, Entertainment collaborates with the Global Sales and Marketing Team, Hotel Operations, Revenue and Social Media and PR to market and execute the Modern Luxury experience and message. 
  • The AVP, Entertainment manages a staff of approximately 30 professionals at the corporate offices and 55-65 staff on board each ship in the Celebrity fleet. This position guides the recruitment and selection of shipboard and shore side entertainment staff and provides direction, coaching, support and evaluation of all shipboard and shore side entertainment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Researches, Conceptualizes, Develops and Implements entertainment and activities programming that keep us on the leading edge of the industry.
  • Ensures the highest level of entertainment and activities for guest satisfaction on board all Celebrity ships.  Ensures a continuous improvement trend in guest ratings and NPS scores.
  • Focus and drive fleet wide ENPS for the Entertainment Department.
  • Drives the selection and management of production companies, producers and partnerships to evolve and create all on-board experiences including but not limited to theatre productions, venue productions, guest activities and experiences, Camp at Sea, Live Music, Headline Entertainment and Residencies, technical management and development. 
  • Collaborates and creates cohesive shipboard programming with all areas of Hotel Operations to generate revenue and drive NPS
  • Drives the development and guides the operations of the in house production facility at The Studio
  • Supports the development and execution of all International Sales and Marketing events both shipboard and shore side to reflect the overall entertainment and activity Modern Luxury experience in order to market and sell our product globally.
  • Collaborate with our social media and PR team to create the correct messaging, events and stories enabling a greater global reach and positive message.
  • Envision and create experiences both shipboard and shore side that support our Diversity and inclusion platform.
  • Executive Producer for all in house productions
  • Negotiate, execute and manage all major production contracts from creation to completion.
  • Host events both shipboard and shore side as Mistress/Master of Ceremonies
  • Streamline all on-board broadcast and satellite programming to support the guest experience and revenue generation.
  • Ensures the quality and consistency of all experiences and programming delivery against company standards and industry trends.
  • Develops and implements recruitment and retention strategies that allow Celebrity to attract and retain the best employees and entertainment. 
  • Monitors guest feedback and customer demographics and psycho-graphics to ensure successful concepts and programming.
  • Observe brand execution and create strategies to ensure compliance with the company’s brand quality and operational standards.
  • Direct and approve operational policies and procedures for the Entertainment Department.
  • Devises and implements business efficiency strategies, including bringing production, casting, live music and set and costume design and maintenance in house.
  • Partners with Human Resources to develop training programs for all entertainment related positions to ensure Celebrity standards are understood and practiced.   Develops employee performance standards and ensures they are communicated consistently and clearly. 
  • Partners with Marine Operations in ensuring all entertainment and activities related equipment and facilities are maintained and operational in accordance with company standards.
  • Provides inspirational leadership and facilitates a culture of commitment and accountability to Celebrity’s standards.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by the SVP, Hotel Operations


Financial Responsibilities:

  • Leads the capital planning for shipboard and The Studio for both visionary development and operations.
  • Financial responsibilities for budget, expenses and/or achievement of revenue targets.
  • Directly responsible for the financial performance of related on-board departments including entertainment.
  • Collaborates with Marine operations in the management of the entertainment maintenance budget.
  • This position is also responsible for cost containment through the proper use, handling and maintenance of records, reports, supplies and equipment.


Job Requirements


  • Minimum 12-15 years of experience in the entertainment industry with an emphasis in daily operations, and Production and/or Company Management.
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university preferred
  • Preferred 8-10 years of managerial experience, with at least 4 years of multi-unit managerial experience.
  • Preferred 4-6 years of experience in activities programming including youth programs, venue entertainment, adult activities, enrichment and related activities.
  • Previous hotel, resort, theme park and/or cruise line experience highly preferred.


Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proven track record of driving high performance and achieving results.
  • Have a disciplined and focused approach to providing support and monitoring performance so as to quickly identify unfavorable performance trends.
  • Have the operational experience to assist the shipboard management team in identifying the root cause and directing the appropriate corrective action plan.
  • Experience as a Host with strong presenting and on camera skills
  • Detailed understanding of project management.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and priorities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, diplomacy and conflict resolution skills. An excellent command of the English language is also required.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle fast paced decision making and crisis management.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and logistical thinking abilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and with motivation to all levels of employees and leaders.
