Job Description

Position Summary:

The Associate I, Art Programs will assist with the project management and administrative support of the art program on board our vessels. They will be responsible for managing the inventory of the on board art collection. This person will support all aspects of art operations of the permanent collection on board our vessels throughout the Royal Caribbean Cruises LTD brands. The position will support the Senior Art Associate on all projects across the RCCL portfolio.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for art consultant research and initiation of vetting process for future projects.
  2. Assist in the preparation of RFPs for new projects.
  3. Produces project brief for art competition when applicable.
  4. Primary liaison between Art Department and Design teams’ art point person for art related matters per project.
  5. Coordinate with NBD project teams to insure art references are included properly in architectural design document submittals.
  6. Work with venue coordinators in organizing venue design briefs by designers for art consultant edification.
  7. Assist art consultant with collection of architectural design documents.
  8. Organize + align art review schedules with Executive and Sr. Management admins.
  9. Work with the design team and art curatorial team to devise marketing strategies pertaining to the art collection, and with RCCL Corporate Communication and Marketing team for executing these strategies.
  10. Responsible for creating and maintaining the tracking of artwork selections and approvals seeking guidance from Senior Art Associate as required for priority areas.
  11. Responsible for tracking change orders.
  12. Manage art schedule of art deliverables and complexities to mitigate added yard costs
  13. Manage coordination between ship yard and/or general contractor and art consultant, ensuring schedules of artwork deliverables are communicated and coordinated.
  14. Coordinates with project sign consultant and art consultant for art plaque design, content and execution.
  15. Available to RCCL logistics team as needed for logistics issues as required.
  16. Available to ship yard and/or general contractor as needed for installation issues as required.
  17. Liaison with art consultant project manager as needed for the promotion and final display of the permanent art collection for each project.
  18. Coordinate in conjunction with Supply Chain for delivery and distribution of the art book/brochure for each new build art installation
  19. Final coordination of art specification and approved art presentation to project file for each vessel.
  20. Manage the disposition planning of the art to include the storage, auctions, charity and investment management. Working in conjunction with Supply Chain and Logistics.

Job Requirements

Financial Responsibilities

Responsible for managing the change order budget + contingencies of approximately $300K-$500K per project.


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited university with a concentration in Interior Design, Graphic Design, Project Management or related field. 
  • 2+ years assisting in an art fair, art gallery and/or art project production environment.
  • Minimum 2 years of previous experience in design and/or artistic environment.
  • Must be able to read architecture and design drawings.
  • Must be available to travel 10-15% of the time, at times for up to 2 weeks.  

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Software: Proficiency in Excel, Photoshop and PowerPoint required. Knowledge of AUTOCAD a plus
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills, must communicate at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communicate in a multicultural environment with all levels of employees and management.
  • Ability to exercise extreme flexibility and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Detail oriented with excellent analytical, financial and spreadsheet modeling skills.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those requirements employees must meet to perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodations.  While performing job functions the employee is regularly required to sit, and stand, write, review and type reports, compile data, operate a PC, communicate, listen, and assess information.  The employee may move about the office complex, may travel to other office locations and may lift, push, pull or move 10-15 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to walk to the dock, ascend and descend the vessel. This position may regularly travel domestically or internationally. Visual requirement include distant, close and color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. The environment includes work inside/outside the office, travel to other offices, possibly travel domestic and international, and work in shipboard functions. A high noise level is possible if visiting shipboard or offsite locations.
